Cedarshore was built in the 1880's and was originally the summer residence of Leander Powell and his family.  George A. Morrison acquired the house and property in 1913 and he and his family (wife Jessie Dickson, son George Elliot, and daughter Jeanett Edina) lived in the house from 1913 to 1916.  The house was on six acres of waterfront property at the foot of Handsome Avenue and was destroyed by fire in 1916.  George A. Morrison developed the property into Sayville's largest resort hotel, the Cedarshore Hotel.
