The Sayville Yacht Club was informally organized in the early 1890's, then formally organized in 1901 as the South Side Yacht Club. The name was changed back to the Sayville Yacht Club in 1921. The clubhouse was originally the Patchogue Yacht Club clubhouse and was moved to its Sayville Yacht Club site east of Foster Avenue by barge in 1921.
