Built in 1892, the West Sayville firehouse was located on the
south side of Montauk Highway, about 150 feet east of the present firehouse.
It was built by Otto Thomas at a cost of $700 on land purchased from Samuel P.
Greene whose home was across the road. When the present West Sayville
firehouse was built in 1931, this building was sold to the Sayville American
Legion Post and moved to the east side of Foster Avenue , between Montauk
Highway and Middle Road, near St. Ann's cemetery.
Postcard postmarked July 15, 1916, from the collection of
Sayville Library.
