George Washington's diary entry for April 22, 1790 records that he stopped at William Greene's home in what is now called West Sayville for tea and a rest on
his journey through Long Island. This photograph shows participants in a
pageant in the 1920's(?)
which commemorated that event.
Standing at the
rear is Samuel P. Greene [d.1931], descendent of William Greene.
Undated photograph from the collection of Sayville Library.
