Elinor Huntoon, daughter of Bertha and Charles Huntoon moved with
her family to Sayville when she was a child. Elinor (Mrs. F. Palmer Haff)
was appointed Librarian of Sayville Library in 1937 and retired as Library
Director in 1970. During her directorship, the library grew through two
major building expansion projects. She also began the tradition of story
times at the library when she conducted outdoor story times during the summers.
The present children's room at the library is named in her honor. She was
a founding member of the Wet Paints Studio Group and the Suffolk County Library
Association.
Elinor Huntoon Haff resided on Edwards Street.
