Sayville's oldest surviving building, the
Edwards' Homestead is located on Edwards Street. Matthew Edwards, son of
the earliest settlers in Sayville, John Edwards and his wife Sarah,
built this house in 1785, at what is now Gillette Avenue and Edwards Street. In 1838
his son James moved
the house to its present site on Edwards Street at the end of Collins Avenue.
It is now a museum run by the Sayville Historical Society.
Drawing by Anthony Montague.
Undated notecard from the collection of Sayville Library.
