
Meadow Croft, the
summer residence of John Ellis Roosevelt (cousin of Theodore Roosevelt) and his
family. It comprises 75 acres on the west side of Brown's River, north of
Middle Road and east of St. Ann's. The Dutch Colonial Revival style house
was created in 1891by architect Isaac H. Green, Jr. by connecting two existing
farmhouses on the property with a new central section. Listed on the
National Register of Historic Places, Meadow Croft is now owned by the Suffolk
County Parks Department, Division of Cultural and Historic Services.
