
. In 1873, Robert B. Roosevelt, the uncle of Theodore
Roosevelt, purchased a 200 acre farm that straddled the Sayville-Bayport line
between Montauk Highway and the railroad tracks. There he built "Lilacs",
his summer home. It remained in the family until 1954 when it
was sold to a developer and razed.
