Parents of middle school students
In-person

Today’s youth are facing more challenges than any generation before them.  1 in 3 adolescents will experience some form of dating abuse before the age of 25. This presentation is designed for parents of youth, adolescents, and young adults. It will give parents the information needed to recognize the very subtle signs of abuse and the tools necessary to safely intervene and assist their child. The presentation also provides specific language to begin the conversation, and uses scenario-based activities to review.

Middle schoolers are invited to register for a concurrent program where they will create zines while Long Island Against Domestic Violence (LIADV) runs an age appropriate workshop which explores the dynamics of teen dating violence and unhealthy relationships. The training reviews the different forms of abuse, warning signs, and LIADV’s services. Teens will receive community service credit for attending.
